SERVICE

Industrial Design

In the Industrial Design phase, we focus on creativity, innovation and the customer experience (CX). I translate your ideas into tangible concepts, exploring various design directions through sketches, 3D CAD models, renderings and low-fidelity prototypes.

This iterative process involves continuous feedback and refinement, ensuring the concepts not only meet aesthetic and functional requirements but also resonate with your target audience. The goal is to bring your vision to life with compelling, user-centered designs that stand out in the market.

Industrial Design Process

The Industrial Design service can be broken down into four key stages: Discovery, Exploration, Refinement, and Presentation. Each stage plays a crucial role in transforming an initial idea into a compelling and viable design concept.

These stages ensure a thorough and systematic approach to Industrial Design, resulting in well-considered and innovative product concepts that align with your goals and market demands.

1

Discovery

In the Discovery stage, we gather essential information to understand the project’s scope and context. This involves:

Client Briefing
Discussing your vision, goals, and requirements.

Research
Conducting market research, competitor analysis, and user studies to gain insights.

Problem Definition
Identifying the core problems and opportunities to address with the design.

2

Exploration

During the Design Exploration stage, creativity and brainstorming are key. Activities include:

Sketching
Creating initial sketches to explore a wide range of ideas and design directions.

Concept Generation
Developing multiple concepts based on the gathered insights and initial sketches.

Collaborative Workshops
Engaging with your and your stakeholders to refine and select promising concepts.

3

Refinement

The Refinement stage focuses on iterating and improving the selected concepts. This involves:

Detailed Design
Developing detailed 3D models and renderings of the chosen concepts.

Feedback Iteration
Incorporating your feedback and that from stakeholders, and user testing to refine the design.

Technical Considerations
Ensuring that the design is feasible and aligns with manufacturing constraints.

4

Presentation

In the Presentation stage, we finalize and showcase the completed concept. This includes:

Final Renderings
Creating high-quality visual representations of the design.

Presentation Materials
Preparing comprehensive presentations that include design overview, specifications and details.

Client Review
Presenting the final concept to you for approval and further development steps.

What To Expect

Timeframe

The Industrial Design phase typically takes between 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the complexity of the project and the specific requirements.

This timeframe allows for a good amount of exploration, iteration, and refinement of ideas to ensure the best possible outcome.

Some clients require only simple design work to pass onto a factory, which can be prepared in 1-2 weeks, whilst some prefer more rounds of refinement and testing to achieve a higher level of quality, which can extend timing to 6 months or more. Each client is different and I'll work with you according to your needs.

Deliverables

At the end of the Industrial Design phase, you will typically receive:

  • A comprehensive set of initial sketches
  • Detailed 3D models and high-quality renderings of the chosen concepts
  • Low fidelity prototypes, if these have been built
  • A presentation package that includes design rationale, features, and benefits
  • A refined design ready for the prototyping phase

Proportionate Cost

The cost for the Industrial Design service varies based on the project's complexity and scope. You'll receive a detailed proposal after our initial consultation, ensuring transparency and alignment with your budget. This investment ensures a well-considered, innovative design that meets both your aesthetic and functional requirements.

As a guide, the allowance for the Industrial Design phase as a percentage of your overall project budget might look like:

Product Strategy - 10%
Industrial Design - 30%
Prototyping - 30 %
Design For Manufacture - 30%
